Sobel Edge Detection with Flash 8

A few years ago I learned in school to write an edge detection algoritm based on the Sobel algorithm in Mathlab. The algorithm is based on a convolution. Since Flash 8 we can now add a convolution filter to bitmapData. So it’s time to test de sobel algorithm in Flash. Imagine we start with the famous image LENA. :-) I have results from mathlab computing and want to compare with Flash generated bitmapData. Our inputimage is (a):

When using Mathlab sobel filter we get the result shown in (b).

But now the result in Flash:

As you see, this is not as good as with Mathlab but it gives us opportunities to make some fingerprint login system, because we can also use it with webcam (i show it later on). So thats for now, more in the next coming days.

By the way… the code is on the way ;-)
